Daemen College and Empire VFX

Students participate in the new program at Daemen College

About the Project

Daemen College aims to create a pipeline for this growing post production industry through its new Visual Effects Certificate Program—the first of its kind in New York State. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have direct access to jobs at Empire VFX and other post production companies, which serve major film and television studios across the country.

The program was recently revised and moved to the Daemen College campus in Amherst. Students spend a year earning their certificate while working in a world class post-production visual effects training facility. The state-of-the-art  software, hardware, and computers are all part of the State's investment.

The partnership between Daemen and Empire VFX is a prime example of how Western New York’s colleges and universities are collaborating with the business community to foster entrepreneurship in exciting new industries, provide new opportunities for students, and attract new companies to locate in Buffalo.

Fostering Academic and Industry Partnerships

In July 2013, Governor Cuomo announced a $4.5 million state investment in a new partnership between Daemen College and Empire Visual Effects (Empire VFX) designed to create a visual effects industry in Buffalo. Empire VFX—a new post production, visual effects and animation company—will create at least 150 jobs over the next five years in its headquarters in Buffalo, and will help to draw other similar companies to Western New York.
